How to Be an Actor When You’re not Acting
How to Be an Actor When You’re not Acting

Introduction

Being happy when you have a job is easy, but how do you stay happy when the work has dried up and the phone isn’t ringing? That to me is the hardest thing about being an actor. How do you stay motivated when the rejections come in week after week, month after month? How do you pay the bills? What to say when someone asks you that dreaded question – ‘So, what do you do for a living?’. Christina Chong will share her experiences, her tools and the practical exercises that she has perfected over the last 12 years, to hopefully leave you feeling positive and ready to take on the world, even when you don’t have that job.

Course Outline

This focused 3 hour workshop aims to give you a variety of skills that you can take forward and use to help keep your career on track, even when you’re not working.
Being a Chinese/English actress, Christina was brought up on a council estate with little money meaning the odds were stacked against her. It was years of struggling to pay the bills, doing second (and third jobs) and after countless rejections, that Christina realised her mindset needed to change. She set out to read as many self-help books as she could get her hands on, and after umpteen cycles of trial and error she noticed a pattern, they all said the same thing – ‘Let go’. But how? With help from her life coach, Michael James, Christina has found a way to manage her thoughts and therefore create the reality she wants. Since 2010 Christina has earned a living from her art and her career trajectory has steadily climbed to where she is now starring in the hit Paramount Plus show ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
