Mel takes a holistic approach over the week of process, taking you through the step by step process of creating, developing and delivering assured on screen performances using a physical approach to fuse the actor and the role. This allows you to find freedom and life in your screen performance. We will film throughout the course โ€“ completing with a filmed and edited scene for you.
Day 1 โ€” Finding What Makes You Compelling on Screen

10.30am – 5.30pm

Mel begins by exploring who you are as an individual performer and what makes you naturally compelling on camera.

You will work on:

  • Identifying your unique screen presence
  • Bringing your own energy and instincts into a role
  • Understanding the difference between your essential self and the learnt text
  • Creating performances that feel truthful, alive and authentic
  • An individual on-screen session with Mel
Day 2 โ€” Inner Life, Rehearsal Tools & Screen Technique

10.30am – 5.30pm

Filming continues from Day 1 before moving into practical rehearsal methods for building a richer inner life for screen performance.

You will explore:

  • Breathing work for presence and emotional access
  • Improvisation techniques
  • Psychological gestures
  • Physical metaphor
  • Mel Churcherโ€™s Elemental Metaphors approach
  • Practical tools for preparing screen roles
  • Scene allocation for the following filming days
Day 3 โ€” Scene Work, Character & Audition Confidence

10.30am – 5.30pm

The focus shifts to screen scene study, helping actors deepen character, relationship and emotional truth on camera.

You will work on:

  • Building believable character relationships
  • Applying technique to scripted scene work
  • Playback and reflection
  • Self-taping technique
  • Audition preparation and screen casting tips
  • Confidence, spontaneity and freedom on camera
Day 4 โ€” Professional Scene Filming

9.30am – 5.30pm

Participants film the scenes developed throughout the course in a professional screen environment.

You will apply:

  • Character work
  • Rehearsal techniques
  • On-camera performance skills
  • Direction and adjustment
  • Screen acting craft in a filmed scene setting
Day 5 Morning โ€” Screening, Feedback & Q&A

10.30am-1.30pm

The final morning is dedicated to watching the filmed scenes together, followed by feedback and reflection.

The morning includes:

  • Screening of all filmed scenes
  • Constructive feedback from Mel
  • Group discussion
  • Q&A on screen acting craft, preparation and the industry
  • Final reflections on your development across the course
  • Work closely with A-List Acting Coach Mel Churcher
  • Film scenes for future development
  • Designed to enhance your screen acting skills

    Please note: this point system is an independent training framework developed by Actors Studio and is not a formal requirement set by Spotlight.
    Students are required to accumulate 500 points through participation in our courses in order to complete the training pathway required to support a Spotlight membership application. Each course is assigned a specific point value, and courses may be repeated to build additional credits.
