Actors Studio has just wrapped its first production experience in Malta, bringing together actors from across the world and Malta itself for a hands-on few days of filming, training and industry insight in one of the Mediterraneanโ€™s most cinematic locations.

Actors filming scene in St Julians Malta

In collaboration withย Screen Malta,ย Camelot Filmsย and theย InterContinental Malta, the experience turnedย St Julianโ€™s into a live working set, with actors stepping into the rhythm of professional screen production while developing their craft in a practical, fast-paced environment.

Over the course of the programme, actors worked with directorsย Tim Kentย andย Nathan Caselton, filming both on the Maltese coast and in the penthouse of the InterContinental Malta. The locations were impressive, but what really defined the experience was the work itself: staying present under pressure, adapting quickly, and learning how screen performances are shaped in real time.

A real highlight of the trip was a seminar withย actor and producer Matt Hookings, who shared honest insights into building a career in film and television, creating opportunities, and navigating the industry with resilience. His session gave the group a grounded look at what long-term success in acting can really require โ€” not just talent, but persistence, initiative and clarity of purpose.

Throughout the Malta experience, the focus stayed firmly on the craft. Actors explored the kind of performance detail that can elevate work on screen โ€” from truthfulness in stillness to sharper emotional choices and greater control in front of camera. These are the kinds of tools often associated with high-level screen acting, and the kind that continue to serve performers long after the shoot ends.

What made the whole experience especially rewarding was the mix of people involved. Actors arrived from different places, backgrounds and stages of their careers, but quickly found a shared creative language through the work. It created an atmosphere that felt collaborative, focused and genuinely energising.

For Actors Studio, Malta was more than just a beautiful filming location. It was a chance to create something ambitious, practical and international โ€” a space where actors could learn by doing, while connecting with industry professionals and each other in a meaningful way.

Actors Studio will be back in Geneva mid-August, before returning to Malta at the end of August for two more international acting experiences.ย Final spots are now remaining for both.

For actors looking to train, film and grow in a real working environment, these upcoming experiences offer a rare opportunity to do exactly that.
