Designed for actors serious about excelling in film and television, this course provides hands-on experience working with a professional crew, capturing your performance on a live set to showcase your growth and expertise.

Technique Overview: Gain insights into James Larkin’s renowned screen acting methodology, developed over decades of experience as an actor and director.

Character Development Insights: Learn to create authentic, compelling performances and avoid common mistakes that lead to scenes being cut.

Practical Exercises: Participate in hands-on activities designed to simplify the acting process and encourage natural, confident performances.

This foundational day sets the stage for rehearsals and filming on Days 2 and 3.

Scene Preparation: You will receive tailored scenes prior to the course to review and begin character development.

Performance Feedback: Receive personalised direction and feedback to enhance your showreel-ready scene.

Meet Your Tutor

James Larkin is a distinguished actor and director with over three decades of experience in theatre, film, and television. A Royal Academy of Dramatic Art alumnus, he has collaborated with industry luminaries such as Kenneth Branagh and Dame Judi Dench.
Larkin’s notable acting roles include Inspector Lapointe in ITV’s “Maigret,” Tony Blair in the BAFTA-winning “The Government Inspector,” and recent roles in “Wolf Hall” and “Black Mirror.”
As a director, he has helmed numerous television dramas, including BBC’s “Call the Midwife” and ABC’s “Private Practice.” His feature film directorial debut, “City Slacker,” received nominations for Best Film at both the Raindance Film Festival and the British Independent Film Awards.

To be eligible to apply for Spotlight Membership, you must successfully earn a total of 400 points through Actors Studio Training.

Each course is worth a specific number of points, and courses can be repeated to earn additional points. Once you have accumulated at least 400 points, you will be eligible to apply for Spotlight Membership.
