Actors Tactical Firearms Course

This comprehensive 5-day Tactical Firearms Course is designed to equip actors with an advanced, safe, and effective skill level in handling and manipulating firearms for screen performance. By the end of the course, actors will not only have a clear understanding of how firearms work but also how to deliver believable, safe, and dynamic performances while using them on set in two showreel scenes, filmed by our award-winning crew.

Outcomes

This is a pass or fail course. Having completed this course you will have acquired an accreditation and two showreel scenes.

Course Outline

Day 1 - 10am - 5pm: Gain Confidence With Weapons
  • Learn the different types of weapons and their application. 
  • Become familiar with holding and operating a weapon. 
  • Understand and apply the guidelines and law for use of firearms film and TV.
  • Dynamic search with weapons – pistol/carbine/taser.
Day 2 - 10am - 5pm: Application Of Weapons In Character
  • Team entry and challenge suspects.
  • Arrest and handcuffs technique.
  • Police terminology and character context.
  • Bodyguard and assassin roles.
  • Practical scenario-based assessments of safe weapon use.
Day 3 - 10am - 5pm: Scene Rehearsals for Filming
  • Work with the Director to develop your characters. 
  • Block the scenes and determine best use of weapons for a realistic and safe performance. 
  • Understand your character motivations. 
  • Receive performance feedback from the Director and weapons supervisor. 
Day 4 - 8am - 6pm: Showreel Filming
  • Showreel filming of 1st scene in 3 hander using weapons.
  • Film bespoke scenes incorporating firearms with a professional crew. 
  • Shoot and handle firearms during filming, under supervision by the armorer.
Day 5 - 8am - 6pm: Showreel Filming
  • Showreel filming of 2nd scene where you will be cast in a duologue.
  • Continued use of weapons within your performance. 
  • Perform on a professional set with our award-winning crew.

Meet Your Tutors

Mike D

Dynamic Shooting Instructor Mike served in the Military and Police Force and has a lifetime experience with firearms as a qualified range officer, firearms instructor and armourer.

Mike has provided training to numerous actors in police, assassin and criminal roles as well as providing on set advice and the safe use of firearms in film and TV.

Paul F

Paul joined the Met Police in 1992 and served for 5 years as a beat officer, 5 years as a riot officer and 20 years in the firearms department - 17 years of which as a Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms Officer and Instructor.

Paul is currently the only National CTSFO instructor that coaches actors in TV and Film covering firearms safety, tactics and script/character context within the UK.

Additional Information

Course attendees will be asked to provide an acting CV in addition to your full legal name and address after booking. This is a pass or fail course.

Having completed the training, you will have acquired an accreditation through Actors Studio and will be on our database as having passed this course.

Attendees will be required to do a small amount of physical movement, so it's recommended you wear loose fitting cargo trousers with a strong belt along with trainers or walking type boots, and T-Shirt and light jacket / fleece etc.

Attendees will be required to sign a disclaimer prior to training taking place.
