Brad Pitt is set to headline the long-anticipated film adaptation of Tim Winton’s Booker Prize-shortlisted novel, The Riders. This cinematic endeavour will be directed by Edward Berger, acclaimed for his work on Conclave and All Quiet on the Western Front. The project is a collaboration between A24, Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions, and Pitt’s own Plan B Entertainment.

A Tale of Love, Loss, and Pursuit

Originally published in 1994, The Riders follows the harrowing journey of Australian man Fred Scully. As Scully awaits the arrival of his wife and daughter at Shannon Airport in Ireland, only his daughter disembarks, traumatised and unable to explain her mother’s absence. This unexpected turn propels Scully and his daughter on a desperate quest across Europe to uncover the truth behind his wife’s disappearance.

A Long-Awaited Adaptation

The path to adapting The Riders for the screen has been a protracted one, spanning over two decades with various actors and directors attached at different times. The current adaptation boasts a script by David Kajganich, known for Bones and All and Suspiria. Filming is scheduled to commence in early 2026, with locations across Europe.

Behind the Scenes

  • Director: Edward Berger
  • Screenwriter: David Kajganich
  • Producers: Ridley Scott (Scott Free), Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner (Plan B Entertainment)
  • Distributor: A24

This adaptation of The Riders promises to be a compelling addition to the cinematic landscape, blending the talents of Brad Pitt and Edward Berger to bring Tim Winton’s poignant narrative to life.
