Following on from the Level 1 Film and TV, Level 2 is designed to build on the foundational screen acting techniques you’ve already learned on Level 1, helping you create more nuanced and refined performances on camera.

Also ideal for you if you have had basic screen acting training and are looking to elevate your abilities. This course focuses on deepening your understanding and application of key performance skills.

Having coached and directed acclaimed actors such as Helena Bonham Carter and Clarke Peters, Sue has worked with BAFTA-winning performers, contributing to their success on screen.

Weekly Evening Sessions

Session 1: Adapting For Genres

 Learning Outcomes

  • Explore the differences between Drama and Comedy in terms of narrative patterns and character arcs. 
  • Understanding comedic timing, developing a deep understanding of human behaviours. 
  • Explore subtlety and vulnerability to convey emotional depth in drama, building an understanding of a character backstory, relationships, wants and needs. 
Session 2: Vocal Clarity & Control

Begin developing an understanding of vocal awareness for performance by focusing on physicality, posture, tone, and clarity.

  • Understand how to deliver a performance with clear diction, tone and clear clarity.
  • Have the confidence to make choices on vocal tones and physicality of a character. 
  • Develop an understanding of how to effectively look after your voice.
Session 3: Emotional Depth and Subtext
  • Cultivating the skill to access and express a broad spectrum of emotions with authenticity. 
  • Understanding and conveying subtext.
  • Develop the ability to adjust intensity to match the demands of different scenes and characters.
Session 4: Backstory/Inner-Life & Dialogue/Action
  • Understand how to interplay between backstory or inner life and the dialogue/action of a scene.
  • Create emotional depth, tension, and realism in character-driven narratives.
  • Engage the audience to your performance
  • Recognise examples of Interplay with TV and Film
  • Layering your action and dialogue
  • Working successfully with your Director.
Session 5: Filming of Scenes

Incorporate learnings into performance of duologue on camera with direction and blocking. Receive feedback from the Director.

In this course, you will explore the complexities of performing across various genres, examining the specific demands and nuances each one presents.

You will develop skills to navigate narrative structures and character development, while also honing vocal awareness and learning how to collaborate effectively with directors. Each session will provide you with essential tools to deliver compelling screen performances.

By the end of the course, you will be confident in delivering performances with vocal clarity and assured choices. You will also be equipped to analyse and showcase technical proficiency, demonstrating a clear understanding of the performance requirements of your chosen narrative.
