Your Week On Camera

Day 1: Types of Shots & Size of Performance

Conquer the practical and technical challenges actors face on a professional film set as you gain clarity and confidence in essential on-camera skills:

Navigate Shot Sizes with Confidence:
Understand how different shots—from wide angles to close-ups—impact your performance, empowering you to deliver consistently compelling takes.

Continuity and Precision:
Develop techniques to maintain seamless continuity, accurately repeat movements, and confidently hit your marks every time.

Know Your Crew:
Demystify the roles on a film set, enhancing your on-set presence and collaboration by understanding precisely how directors, cinematographers, and crew members influence your performance.

Day 2: Bring Your Characters to Life On-Screen

Day 2 is dedicated to helping you craft authentic, memorable characters that resonate on film and TV. Guided by expert coaches, you’ll tackle common actor challenges and arm yourself with essential tools for rehearsal and filming:

Shape Compelling Characters:
Discover how to build nuanced, layered performances that captivate directors and audiences alike.

Master On-Camera Awareness:
Learn how spatial awareness, precise eye-lines, and subtle gestures transform your performance from good to unforgettable.

Adapt Your Acting for Camera:

Day 3: Scene Rehearsals for Filming

  • Introduction to scene objectives.
Day 4: Showreel Filming
  • Apply detailed objectives to a scene.
  • How to change circumstances between lines and genre.
  • How stakes impact delivery.
Day 5: Your Role On Set
  • Participate in a role reversal on a set.
  • Understand the demands of each department in Film & TV.
  • Increase your communication between departments like Sound, Script Supervisors, Camera Assistants to enhance your employability skills.

Mel Churcher

A-List Acting & Dialect Coach

Mel Churcher is an acclaimed A-Lister acting and voice coach whose career has shaped unforgettable performances by stars like Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, and Keira Knightley.

Mel combines vocal training, movement, and emotional depth to bring characters to life and is favoured among international actors aiming to break into the English-speaking market.

She has worked at Zurich University of the Arts, Prague Film school, IFS in Cologne, Die Tankstelle in Berlin as well as numerous institutions in the US.

Nathan has worked with actors of all levels from BAFTA Winners to newcomers. His forte lies in offering practical guidance and fostering confidence among actors, enabling them to craft authentic and compelling performances that resonate powerfully on screen.

Our course takes place at Westhive Geneva, Esplanade de Pont-Rouge 9A, 1212 Lancy with excellent public transport connections:

  • Train: Just a 5-minute ride from Geneva Cornavin station to Lancy-Pont-Rouge station.
  • Tram: Served directly by tram line 15 (stop: Lancy-Pont-Rouge), linking you quickly to the city centre.
  • Bus: Accessible by multiple bus lines, including routes 21, 43, and D, stopping nearby.

Will I Receive Footage From Workshops?

All workshops during the course will be filmed. You will receive all workshop footage to download via our digital portal.

Will I Receive A Showreel From This Course?

You will film two professional scenes shot on Cinema Cameras. These scenes will go through post production including editing and colour grading and delivered via WeTransfer up to 7 weeks after the course.

How Do I Apply For The Course?

You can book through our website. We accept all major Credit & Debit Cards, PayPal and International Payment Providers. Ideal if you have some prior acting experience or training, or are a seasoned professional seeking a refresher. Not suitable for complete beginners.

Is The Course Suitable For International Students?

Yes we welcome international students on all of our courses. The course is taught in English, so it is important that you have proficient English language skills.

How Many Students Are On This Course?

The course is limited to a maximum of 14 participants.

What Time Do Workshops Run?

The course runs daily (Mon-Fri) from 10am to 5pm, with a lunch break typically at 1pm. During the filming days on Thursday and Friday, the schedule extends to accommodate the filming process, with hours generally from 8am to 6pm.
