This unique two day workshop has been crafted with the working actor in mind to help you nail your audition and self-tape. Led by one of the most experienced TV and Film Casting Directors, Ben Cogan aims to shed light on the casting process and provide you with useful tools to improve your audition technique in order to book the job.
Having cast British shows such as Holby City and EastEnders, Ben will show you how to approach and prepare for an audition, perform within it and importantly enjoy it! The format of this course will give actors a realistic practise of applying for a role, from dissecting a scene to submitting a self-tape. This is a MUST for any actor who needs to improve their chances of getting work.
Day 1 – Monday 15th February
Actors will be introduced to Ben and understand fully the role of a casting director. Using scenes you will receive a week before, each actor will be given direction from the perspective of a casting director and understand how to break down a script.
This will be followed by a Q&A. After lunch actors will then approach another scene, putting focus on characterisation. This will be concluded with a self-taping exercise with techniques that actors can take away and use alone before the next session.
Day 2 -Friday 19th February
Actors will view their Self Tapes with Feedback from Ben. This will be chance for actors to view fellow performers tapes, giving a chance to explore other techniques or mistakes made by actors. Using scenes received on Tuesday, Ben Cogan will host a mock online audition true to the current casting processed used in Film & TV during the pandemic. All attendees will be able to watch but with their cameras off and sound muted. Following this audition and applying their skills from the week, actors will be given feedback on their performance and areas to improve. The session will be followed by a Q&A.
Actors should print their script so they can read in, follow the given direction and scene dissection.
