Improve your Performance & Business mindset 

Over four weeks, you will work closely with Film & TV Directors, Acting Coaches and Casting Directors who will ensure both your acting and business skills excel, giving you a strong foundation to progress your career. You will walk away with two bespoke professionally filmed scenes, and upon completion, all students will be issued with an Actors Studio Screen Acting Masterclass Diploma.

Meet Your Tutors

Tim Kent

 

Tim is a former Talent Agent who represented many household names from the world of entertainment. In 2004, he founded the successful actor training company, Actors Studio where he’s created a host of popular actor training courses and has a huge wealth of experience in coaching and directing actors. Now working as an Award-Winning Director, Tim’s credits include The Prowler starring Dominic Rowan and Linette Beaumont Winner of The 2016 Best British Film award at the Portsmouth International Film Festival. Tim has also produced training films in Screen Acting that are distributed by The National Theatre book shop and Samuel French.

 

Sarah Hannah

 

Sarah Hannah is a regular at the BBC working both in-front of the camera and within the casting department for the likes of Holby City and Casualty. Bringing her experience of working on stage and on screen, in addition to working closely with Casting Website Spotlight and the popular Monologue Slam, Sarah will focus on enhancing your presence as an actor ensuring that you are marketing yourself correctly and that your CV stands out as professional in this saturated market.

 

Without hesitation, Sarah will expose weaknesses in your audition practice and construct ways to improve going forward. As an experienced coach working with actors of all levels, Sarah has an impressive 100% Success Rate for Drama School Auditions and continues to support emerging talent through whichever path they take.

Mel Churcher

Mel is one of the top dialogue and acting coaches in the industry, where she has worked on over 50 major film and TV projects. The full list can be found on IMDb. Projects include working with leading actors on films and TV projects: Marco Polo, Chalet Girl, The Lady, Berbarian Sound Studio, Sherlock Holmes, The Last Station, Control. By working as a voice coach, actor, acting teacher, writer and director has allowed her to learn and understand the depth of the interconnected nature of all human expression.

 

When Mel teaches acting for screen, her approach is new and different. Some coaches teach rehearsal processes, others screen technique, however Mel believes that both are fundamental for any actor. During workshops, Mel uses a camera and monitor, which allows the actor to see the results of their work on the screen.

Clare Davidson

To assist actors in their development of a role, Clare draws upon her extensive experience as a theatre director and vocal coach. She has developed a series of exercises where the essential free flow of the breath links the movement of the diaphragm with the handling of the breath by the lips and tongue. This will ensure clear diction and a strength of emotional connection.

 

Clare Davidson, is an acting coach with a worldwide reputation. She has trained many stars including Sting, Pierce Brosnan, Stephen Rea, Dudley Moore, Liam Neeson, Brian Cox, Patricia Hodge, Maureen Lipman, Jim Broadbent (Academy Award 2002), Ian Charleson, Jennifer Ehle, Francesca Annis, Harriet Walter, Orlando Bloom, Jack Whitehall, directed in London’s West End and off-Broadway, and held academic positions in colleges and universities in America and the United Kingdom.

Ben Cogan

 

Ben Cogan is a British-Based casting Director with over 15 years of experience working with the BBC casting programmes such as Eastenders and Casualty. The role of the casting director places them into the heart of a dramatic creation, through working with writers and producers, they’re equipped to join forces with directors and introduce actors new characters.

 

‘My workshops consist of a in depth discussion about the casting process in relation to the actor, how to prepare & perform in an audition and some honest advice about how to design your CVs, approaching casting directors and help guide you through all areas of the casting process. I also will assign you scenes on the day to work with another – and work with you … giving direction, praise and constructive criticism. I’m then happy to answer any questions you may have.’

Steve Finn

Steve Finn has been working as a Broadcast Television Director for over 20 years. His many credits include: London’s Burning, Hollyoaks, Casualty, The Bill and Holby City. Steve is currently one of the Directors on Eastenders and has worked on the award-winning show since 1995. Steve is an immensely popular Director and is known for his nurturing, friendly and enthusiastic approach when working with actors.

Taz Ayoub

Director and Producer, Taz Ayoub launched his professional career after graduating from Exeter University with a BA (Hons) Film Studies.  Taz has worked continuously throughout his career and has extensive experience in Television and Film production with over 40 projects under his belt so far. Actors Studio is very excited to offer actors the opportunity to work with Taz – one of the Industry’s most up and coming new Directors.

WEEK 1 – TIM KENT, BEN COGAN & SARAH HANNAH

To kickstart your Masterclass, Tim will introduce you to the career of being a screen actor while providing you with a practical experience, covering shot sizes, eye lines, and personal continuity. You will be given a unique chance to meet a leading casting director, in addition to established Acting Agent Gareth Owen, who will teach you secrets of the industry to boost your career. Throughout the week you will film and review scenes, supported by Director’s comments, giving you maximum on-screen time.

WEEK 3 – CLARE DAVIDSON, & STEVE FINN

Working with both leading acting coaches and TV Directors, week three will introduce you to physical awareness for screen and demands of the industry.

Clare Davidson:

  • Breakdown of a film script with Stanislavski Exercises (mentioning Meisner and Adler)
  • Vocal technique (Structured to aide relaxation on a film set)
  • Learn to release required emotion for the scene
  • Go through Stanislavski exercises, relating them to sample script

Clare Davidson:

  • Further work on Vocal Technique
  • Link vocal technique to acting exercises and the text of the script
  • Building a secure system an actor can apply throughout their career

Clare Davidson:

  • The importance of physical relaxation will be highlighted
  • Exercises given to build muscular strength

WEEK 4 – TIM KENT & TAZ AYOUB 

This final week of the course is focused on filming two professional scenes for your acting showreel, while giving you the chance to work alongside a professional film crew to experience what it takes to work both sides of the camera. Scenes will then be professionally edited for you to use as a showreel to market yourself on platforms like Spotlight & Casting Call Pro.
