Clare Davidson MFA, is an acting coach and theatre director with a worldwide reputation. She has trained many stars and senior executives across the globe to assist with their development of a role. Clare draws upon her extensive experience as a theatre director, and a vocal and acting coach on movies to offer script analysis, assistance with self-taping, auditions, dialects, voice-overs and show reels, and has developed a series of exercises which will ensure a strong emotional connection with free sound.
Clare has worked with many established performers including Sting, Pierce Brosnan, Stephen Rea, Dudley Moore, Liam Neeson, Brian Cox, Patricia Hodge, Maureen Lipman, Jim Broadbent (Academy Award 2002), Ian Charleson, Jennifer Ehle, Francesca Annis, Harriet Walter, Orlando Bloom, Jack Whitehall, directed in London’s West End and off-Broadway, and held academic positions in colleges and universities in America and the United Kingdom.
DAY 1 – INTRODUCTION & YOUR BODY
We establish goals for the week and allocate scene work with a script breakdown system explained. Bring a notebook to record exercises and personal discoveries.
The importance of physical relaxation will be highlighted with exercises given to build muscular strength combined with some for increased emotional freedom.
DAY 2 – YOUR VOICE & MIND
Vocal technique will be explained with exercises focusing on the breath enabling a centred tone, greater vocal range, and clearer diction.
A selection of acting techniques will be discussed, with exercises chosen that will activate creative imagination and release emotional memory.
DAY 3 – SCENE WORK
A warm -up will start the day amalgamating the acting, vocal and physical exercises. Taking emotional requirements from the scene work a selection of imaginary relationships are put together and improvised freely in pairs.
Scenes are rehearsed using the script breakdown system and discussing text learning techniques. Differences between theatre, TV and film scripts are highlighted.
DAY 4 – IMPROVISATION & BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER (1)
The warm up is repeated using different exercises which will lead into scene rehearsal with an emphasis on commitment to deep character work helped by the improvisation.
Scenes will be filmed plus a play-back critique session.
DAY 5 – BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER (2) & CONCLUSION
The physical and vocal warm-up will lead into scenes filmed plus play-back critique session.
A critique session with the whole group discussing original goals. Clear objectives set for the future progress of each individual.
This is a week crafted to help define the individual’s acting process for film. To deepen, clarify and highlight the varying needs of each individual. While this 5 Day Course doesn’t provide you with a showreel, you will take away filmed scenes to showcase your development.
