Capturing you as an actor

Acting is far from just knowing how to pose, therefore your acting headshot should depict a range of your abilities to transform yourself into a character other than your own. Whilst having a true representation of your looks is important, it’s behind the eyes that will reveal the abilities you hold through your acting.  I have had the privilege to work alongside skilled and experienced acting coaches and directors such as Mel Churcher, Steve Finn and Tim Kent and many more; therefore during the headshot shoots I carry their practices into the process of capturing your acting headshots.

The essence of the headshot

The headshot is the fundamental tool to sell yourself as an actor.  It is the one device that has the power to capture your acting ability in a split second.  It is not merely a representation of your appearance but an insight into way you can carry yourself in front of the camera.  It is key to dive deeper into the context of the image and not only present a portrait of yourself to those who could potentially give your future acting role.

"Every Photo Told a Story"

I absolutely loved my headshot session with Anna! The photo's were amazing and Anna really helped to make me feel relaxed and confident during the shoot. She was very professional and made sure that every photo told a story. I would definitely recommend Anna to anyone looking for professional pictures, she was a pleasure to work with and I know I will be using her services again.

"A Great Pleasure to Work With"

Anna Chand is one of those rare and talented individuals who sets the high standards for her industry peers. My headshot session felt like being in a movie. Each and every shot told a different part of the story. I have no hesitation in recommending Chand's services, she was a great pleasure to work with.

Advice

I would advise you to bring at least three different top options with varying necklines (i.e. round neck/ V- neck etc. No strapless tops or tops covering your necks please).  If you are unsure of what tops to bring it is better to bring more options with you and we can decide on the day.  I would suggest you bring a dark option, light neutral coloured top and a colour that you feel you suit.  It is best not to have patterned tops, elaborate tops, logos or anything that will distract the viewer from yourself. Jewellery can also be distracting in your headshots, therefore it is best to remove it.

I would like to take images of you looking as natural as possible therefore it is best to only wear light make up if you choose to wear any.  It is also good to come in with your hair how you want it to be styled before the shoot.  There will be a make up room where you can do any last minute fixes.

Before your shoot it would be good to have a think of any characters or roles you could see yourself playing so we can get character shots during the shoot (think about what roles people usually cast you as).

It is best to get a good nights sleep before the shoot and to drink plenty of water during the weeks before  to keep your skin looking hydrated and fresh.

If you have had headshots taken in the past it is helpful to email them over to me so I can work towards a new style for you.

‘I learned so much from Anna in the 2 hour session. I needed headshots for acting, so she completely wanted to stay away from modelling, but in such a professional way! I had not known that it was possible. Her knowledge about photography and acting is so huge and up to date, I have never experienced this from any photographer.  She created a very friendly atmoshpere so I could relax and could really feel that she is a fond of photography. She made me even more enthusiastic and concentrated.I am looking forward to the next time we can work together.’  Victor Toth – Actor
